When the opportunity came up recently to speak at the Rise and Lead Summit in the Hague, I jumped at the chance. After all, being in a place where so many passionate women (and men!) gathered, determined to change the dialogues on diversity in the workplace, and promoting women in business and sustainability is right up my alley.
Unfortunately, I could only attend one day of this 2-day event, but even this one day really fueled my train of thought on these topics and made me even more passionate about my second topic – advancing women in leadership roles.
My personal key takeaway from the day was this – we need to change the scripts we use in the workplace – it’s not only about diversity, but ensuring that we make equality a priority. This is really important since the focus seems to be about meeting diversity targets, but it needs to be about making it a fair playing field as well.
Then it was time for my very own session.
I shared my time on Entrepreneur Leadership with Stephanie Ward of Firefly Coaching, and our room was packed! I spoke about Branding and Marketing for Scale-ups (special thanks to Stephanie for the photos and videos).
I began the session by asking people to think about where they were in their business. Did they think they were positioned as a startup, or a scale-up (or if they were unsure!).
It was awesome to see that so many in that room were hungry for growth and becoming a scale-up.
It was also in this session that I shared my own personal journey with scaling iGina and the story of the Seuss+ Collective, and how that shared vision fuels our passion.
I hoped to motivate the room with my own story to really drive them to go for their passions, and take the risk, make mistakes, but to grow from these and use them to really springboard their businesses.
I don’t think it would be a presentation from me if I didn’t talk about how it’s so important to build your strategy first and then design second. For anything to move, you need to have that strategy clearly defined and then you can move on with intent and purpose, and most importantly a clear strategy on how your business can grow and prosper.

How can I not mention how amazing it was to work again with Stephanie Ward? (We also worked together at the FIGT conference last year!).
Stephanie is such a powerhouse when it comes to talking about networking and making an impression, and she truly inspired conversation. Everyone was buzzing about trigger questions and referrals in the room after her part of the session.
It’s always amazing to be part of a conference that promotes and fosters women entrepreneurs, and also supports them to grow and develop in different ways. I can’t think of a better way to support each other than by sharing our collective knowledge and experiences so that everyone can grow successful businesses.
Will I see you next year at the Rise & Lead Summit? I hope so!
